Joan’s Journey Through Skill Empowerment

Joan* during one of the club meetup sessions

Coming here made me meet a lot of people. I have been inspired to grow through the various skills learned and I am also able to make sales.”

These were the words of Joan*, a girl who became part of IGACU three years ago.

At the time, Joan was only 17 years old and had already faced one of the painful realities many girls encounter, dropping out of school due to limited financial resources.

Despite the disappointment and uncertainty that came with that season, she still carried a dream within her heart.

One day, she shared that she hoped to become a fashion designer.

During that period, Joan began attending tailoring classes within town. With consistency, determination and support, she continued sharpening her skills while also participating in crochet training activities through IGACU.

Today, Joan is highly skilled in tailoring and continues to earn income through crochet product sales, trainings and tailoring work.

What once began as a simple dream is slowly becoming a pathway toward independence, restoration and hope. She says, “I am happy that I can earn from both skills”

One of Joan’s greatest desires now is to secure her own rented working space where she can fully operate and grow her tailoring business.

She has become one of our most trusted trainees, turned trainer and now supports fellow young women during training sessions and skill-building activities.

Watching Joan confidently train others and speak with boldness is one of the reasons we continue doing this work.

Her transformation reminds us that when young women are given opportunity, mentorship and practical skills, they can rebuild their future and become leaders within their communities.

Now 20 years old, Joan continues to pursue her dream with passion and we hope to see her receive the support needed to fully establish herself.

If you would love to support Joan and many other young women through skilling, mentorship and empowerment opportunities, kindly reach out.
